Elaan's List Singapore - Operation

Not counting the ad pages, Elaan's List Singapore consists of about 40 public, or user pages and an equal amount (or more) of backend, or site-support pages.

The public pages are pages that visitors use to actually 'work the site!' The backend pages are programs and interfaces for employees to perform most daily maintenance tasks, the most important of which is database maintenance and ad expiry auto-notifications. Backend programs enable these tasks to be performed with just a few clicks.

Other backend programs filter visitor requests by providing access (or non-access) to visitors based on ip address, past history on the site, origin, number of requests per minute, ua strings, e-mail address, etc and other footprints which identify visitors. Manual programs safeguard the site if abberant behavior is detected, enabling observing personnel to halt, block, or ban visitors to the site with only a few clicks. Manual programs also provide us with real-time stats and site snapshots, can trace a visitor's path and activity throughout the site, and reveal all information applied to forms in the frontend pages. Our programs also detect errors in the ad posters' code, attempts at DOS attacks, SQL injection attacks, scripting attempts, and other methods used to abuse websites. In short, Elaan's List Singapore is quite secure.

Users who attempt to automate the process of posting ads are quickly and easily shut down, their footprints and actions subsequently recorded for review. That information is used to shore up defenses against similar abuses by actual hard-coding into the frontend pages.

At Elaan's List Singapore, we have live beings whose only job is to observe visitor site activity and review visitor logs line-by-line. Their job is to identify suspicious or abnormal, repetitive movements on the site, by looking at pages accessed, the number of pages accessed per minute, identifying the source of the activity and subsequently allowing or disallowing access to the site. Other employees screen ads, examine updates and deletions, and either re-edit or delete them from the system entirely when necessary.

Elaan's List Singapore is a completely web-based site, which means that it can be operated from anywhere in the world where a connection to the internet can be established, including aircraft. Additionally we utilize four databases, and use more than 32 mailboxes for customer communication and for 'auto-notify task alerts' based on visitor usage.
