Q.		What if I want my post to run for more than thirty days?
A.		All standard free classified ads automatically run for thirty days. After thirty days, the post and artwork (if any) are automatically deleted from the database. You can run the same ad again for another thirty day period. Simply repost the ad and your new ad will appear at the top of the search results as before.
Q.		What is cross-posting and why is it not allowed?
A.		Cross-posting as it applies here occurs when a person posts the << same >> ad in different cities and/or in different categories. Cross posting gives visitors the impression that the information presented is the same from city-to-city or from category-to-category which frustrates visitors to the point where they leave the site.
Q.		How do I use the Elaan's List e-mail address on my post?
A.		All posts have an 'Elaan's List' e-mail address. This is located directly under the title of the post and looks like this: <some_number>@elaanslist.com. 'Some number' is the same as the 'ad id number' of the post. To avoid spam or for privacy reasons, the advertiser can activate and use this e-mail address to receive messages rather than expose his personal e-mail address to potential misuse online. Messages received at this e-mail address are forwarded to any e-mail address that you choose. This option becomes available after you place an ad. The e-mail address remains active for six months or until you discontinue your ad. Your ad must be active during this period. The cost for this option is SG$6.00 / US$5.00.
Q.		How do I activate the Elaan's List e-mail address on my post?
A.		To activate your e-mail address: 1) Click this link to make your payment. 2) After you have made your payment, you will be prompted to enter your ad id number, your password for the specific ad, and the e-mail address to which you want to forward your incoming messages. Click the 'Activate' Button when you are finished. 3) To use your Elaan's List e-mail address in your post, click the 'Update' link on the white menu bar and make the changes directly to your post.
Q.		What is the e-mail address for the Sales Department? I can't find it.
A.		There is no public e-mail address for the Sales Department. You can use the Sales Department contact form by clicking the Sales Department links here or here. Note: This is a protected link. To prevent spam, you can only access this form by using the links contained in these two pages above. Do not copy the link and try to use it from a new browser window or the system will block you from the site entirely.
Q.		I've been blocked from the site and cannot access any pages. What can I do?
A.		Nothing. Pray.
Q.		What kind of ads do you reject?
A.		Here is a short list of ads most likely to be rejected: 'Work from home' or 'online jobs' ads that appear on dozens of other sites Jobs or job programs (work-at-home, etc.) that require a prepaid fee, the purchase of an 'instructions pack' or cd, or a paid membership, or a 'one-time registration setup fee.' These are all scams and should be avoided. Ads that 'load' keywords into the ad body Ads which show an 'employee id' or 'user id' in the title Ads for Pets originating outside Singapore and with no phone number. (More info) Ads for loans originating outside Singapore, or SG loan ads using a hotmail, gmail or similar web-based email address and contain very little information about the lender/lender's legality. Ads that no sane individual could possibly understand Ads with no contact method or links Overly descriptive 'personal' or 'adult' ads which portray sex in a demeaning or lustful manner Ads selling 'inter-galactic space travel' for pets and other animals
Q.		I completed posting my ad, but it doesn't appear in the listings.
A.		Three things to remember about ad posting on Elaan's List Singapore: Ads successfully submitted do not get posted immediately. All ads are screened for suitability by a person before inclusion. You must verify your e-mail address after submitting your ad. Ads without e-mail verification will usually not be posted You can use the 'ad locator' tool ('Where's my post?' in the left column) to find your post. You can use the 'ElaanSearch' feature to locate your post.
Q.		Do you have any jobs at Elaan's List Singapore?
A.		Yes, we do! You can click the blue 'Join us!' button at the top of most pages, or click this link for job information related to Advertising Sales (commission only). Additionally, we are always looking for graphic designers and copywriters who can design modern display ads and provide compelling ad copy, and talent who can convert documents to cross-browser compatible webpages using CSS. Other backend jobs related to site function and database maintenance are harder to obtain as the learning curve is steep and requires in-house training, which may require long-distance travel for interested applicants.
Q.		My hyperlinks will not link.
A.		Make sure that 'www' is present in the url link and include a whitespace immediately before and after an e-mail address or page url. This will enable auto linking. You can remove the 'www' from the url link (if desired) on the following edit page using the html button.
Q.		When creating my ad, how do I use the 'list buttons?'
A.		Follow this procedure: List each item in your list on a separate line and press the 'Enter' key after each item After listing all your items, highlight all the items which you just created (including the blank lines) Click the list button you prefer You may also edit this code in HTML View.
Q.		My e-mail address is not private but I use hotmail, gmail, msn, yahoo, etc. What do I do?
A.		You should check the 'This e-mail address is private.' box. This is because some visitors do not have an e-mail client (program) installed on their computers to handle e-mails. When these visitors click the 'contact this advertiser' e-mail link, their computers will ask 'Which program should I use to open the program?' To avoid this, if your contact e-mail address is web-based, then check the box as suggested and a private e-mail page will be presented to the visitor. Checked or unchecked, an e-mail will be sent. However, the checked option is simpler for the web-based visitor who wants to contact you.
Q.		How do I delete my post?
A.		Click the 'Update' button on the blue button menu on any page. Choose the 'delete the post' option.
